After graduating from the Accademia Albertina High School in Turin, Nicola Pisano began working in 1976 as an aid in the restoration workshop of Guido and Gian Luigi Nicola, intervening alongside them on paintings on canvas, frescoes, terracotta and wooden works.
Passionate about photography and technology, he never misses the opportunity to learn from professional photographers, chemists, physicists and technician radiologists who collaborate with the laboratory, how to empower his knowledge and his diagnostic techniques artworks, techniques that he will later develop through constant updates. Today, within the laboratory, he is the responsible and direct executor of non-destructive instrumental analysis to ultraviolet, through digital radiography, IR reflectography, Video microscope and fibre optic endoscope.
Since 1982, for 12 years, Nicola has been co-owner of the artisan company of Anna Rosa Nicola, his wife, and with her works in various fields of restoration, developing particular experience especially in the delicate cleaning operation, both of paintings on paper, on canvas and on wood, and of frescoes and stuccos.
Since 1996 he has been working as a manager in Nicola Restauri Srl, taking care of and personally carrying out work both in the laboratory and in external worksites, coordinating the various operating sectors; flanks and supports Anna Rosa in the technical direction of the various restoration interventions entrusted both by public and private clients.
One of his specialisations is the restoration of Asian works of art on wood, fabric, lacquer, stucco, terracotta, stone and metal material.
Since 2015 he is Founding Member of the Cultural Heritage Association Guido Nicola for Restoration.
Beyond the restoration
Passionate about everything that is technological and innovative, he is always informed about the latest discoveries, especially those related to photography and video shooting.
He made several films of various nature and level, the first still on Super8 film, Video8 and 16mm, then move to HD digital; following the passion of his wife Anna Rosa for succulent plants, at the end of the eighties, he made a film about the South African Mesembryanthemacae, shown on some meetings of the AIAS members (Italian Association of Succulent Amateurs).
Together with Anna Rosa, he realises History of a holed painting, a documentary in the form of a story addressed to Primary Schools that, with appropriate language, invites children to take care of art, simplifying the difficult concepts of restoration and transforming the story into a fairy tale happy ending.
Many are the videos made to document the restoration work carried out in the Laboratory: Notes of work: almost a documentary, was awarded in 2002 - in Pieve di Cadore - on the occasion of the First International Festival of Documentary Art.
He also collects old cameras that he loves to rearrange, making them work again.
